BetTer Living by Design

Paul Brown & Associates have crafted a classic contemporary design inspired by the materiality and proportions of local heritage architecture. Informed by key concepts of utility, strength, and beauty, the refined design honours the prestige and character of Remuera, befitting a prominent corner site and enhancing the neighbourhood.

Brick and stone dominate the exterior palette, chosen for their enduring quality and natural beauty. Complementing these textured and tonal materials, large, sleek joinery adds an elegant counterpart, resulting in an aesthetically balanced and sophisticated design.

The elevational approach comprises a public-facing and a rear façade. The public-facing façade is wrapped in brick and stone like a ‘veil’, punctuating larger contemporary glass elements and interior spaces. This formal and rhythmic design wraps the corner site, with stepped columns and slim metal screens providing rich, ornate detailing. A bronze spandrel between levels two and three breaks the brick façade, enhancing the sense of verticality and echoing the floating canopy on the penthouse level. The rear elevation is more solid, scaled down, and simplified to respond to the nature of the private residences.

On the eastern side of the building is a shared courtyard with in-built seating and BBQ facilities. The thoughtfully designed landscape offers distinct zones, allowing several groups to enjoy the area simultaneously.

In keeping with the neighbourhood, a scoria wall forms the base of the building, creating a strong edge to the footpath. The ground floor is elevated above street level to maximise privacy and views. Layered planting and manicured trees add texture and depth to the podium, while a sweeping stair marks an inviting building entrance from Ladies Mile.

Timeless
Interiors

Designed for those who value quality and substance over fleeting trends, Interior Designer Stewart Harris imbues the classic contemporary ethos of Ode's architecture into every facet of the interior, curating a range of natural materials that signify timeless quality.

At Ode, you’ll find a sophisticated selection of premium materials and details, down to the skirtings and cornices. Two interior specifications – Sky and Earth – offer a choice of fitout; one soft, understated, relaxed, and light; the other rich and lustrous.

Regardless of which option you choose, both are thoughtfully resolved and include specific design elements that complement, rather than overshadow personal style, providing a versatile and tasteful backdrop.

From the early planning stages, art has played a pivotal role in the layout of each apartment. Hallways and sitting nooks provide perfect spaces to showcase treasured pieces, while the main living area centres around a beautiful fireplace with built-in cabinetry, perfect for displaying objets d'art.
